Original German National Socialist-era victory sash bearing the inscription “Dem 1. The sash commemorates first place in the middleweight category at the 1937 Munich competition and is associated with German wrestler Fritz Schäfer, who won European Championship gold in freestyle wrestling in Munich that year. During WWII, Schäfer served in France, where biographical sources record that he worked in an Army slaughterhouse as a butcher. An unusual piece combining German sporting history with the political symbolism of the period.
