Original U.S. Army Signal Corps PG-51 Four-Bird Messenger Pigeon Container

Rare original WWII U.S. Army Signal Corps pigeon container, designed to transport four military messenger pigeons. The PG-51 was used by the U.S. Army Pigeon Service for transporting and deploying homing pigeons used for battlefield communications.

The container retains its original Signal Corps / U.S. Army data plate from 1943, marked “CONTAINER PG-51” and “Designed at Signal Corps Laboratories, Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.” 

The container retains its original olive drab finish, original carrying straps, handles, hinges and hardware. It shows authentic wartime use and storage wear, including scratches and some surface corrosion to the metal fittings.

A very rare and highly unusual piece of original U.S. WWII Signal Corps equipment. An excellent display item for a U.S. Army, Signal Corps, communications or WWII collection.
