Original German Wehrmacht M39 Tornister / “Affe” Backpack, dated 1943, near mint
Very nice original German Wehrmacht Tornister, commonly known as an “Affe”, dating from 1943.
This late-war example features the characteristic cowhide-covered flap, feldgrau canvas construction, original leather fittings and period metal hardware. The interior retains its original construction and the bag is marked with a wartime RBNr. and 1943 date.
The Tornister is in exceptionally well-preserved original condition, with very fresh canvas, excellent cowhide and well-preserved leather components. It shows only minimal signs of use and storage for its age.
The absence of conventional shoulder straps is correct for this later type, which was designed to be attached to the German Koppeltragegestell / Y-strap equipment system.
A particularly attractive example for a serious Wehrmacht equipment collection.
