Original British WWI Derby Scheme Armband – 1915
Original British Army First World War Derby Scheme armband, dating from 1915.
This original khaki wool armband features the characteristic red felt Royal Crown sewn to the front and is complete with its original two-button fastening. The inside bears the period issue markings, including the number 9066.
The Derby Scheme was introduced in 1915 as a voluntary recruitment scheme, allowing men to attest for military service while remaining in civilian life until called up. Those who joined the scheme were issued with these armbands as proof of their status. The scheme ended when compulsory military service was introduced in early 1916. Concept500
A very desirable and relatively scarce piece of British WWI home-front militaria, particularly in this complete original condition.
